LIBYA

A bit of a musical desert (excuse the pun) with very little home grown musical output. Relies mainly on Egyptian music. I did ask the Swiss Embassy some years ago (they were looking after our interests at the time) if they could help source some music from Libya but they said all that was available was "Egyptian or Ghaddaffi sings the Nolans" beat that for a reply from an Embassy if you can.

Just stand back and marvel as the gorgeous tinkling sound of the oud is overshadowed by the thunderous drums, hand clapping and shrill female vocals before the male singer of classical poetry takes centre stage with his own mesmerising performance. Groupe Chet Fewet are superb on every track and this album gets a definite honoured place in my own collection. The drums throb like the undulating Saharan dunes to induce you into a trance of pure pleasure. (8T/57M)
