BERENGER OUEDRAOGO DANS BAANGA WK004 TC £ 25.00
Berenger is the son of Prince Edouard and is well known as a keyboard player on numerous Ivory Coast releases recorded at his father's Studio Prince in Abidjan. For his first solo outing Berenger not only wrote the music but also arranged, the keyboards, lead vocals and the programming! You might be deceived into thinking of this as one man band but a big chunk of its appeal comes from the guitaring of N'sika Basile and the delicious vocals of Joelle Seka and Julie Brou. No mention of this cassette anywhere on the net except here so a very rare item.

KADY DIARRA NOUMOU PS66415 CD £ 10.00
Kady Diarra originally comes from Bobo Dioulasso in Burkina Faso but grew up in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast before returning to her homeland in 1992. She began singing and dancing with Adama Drame's Foliba, but in 1998 she went solo and surrounded herself with traditional musicians from her family and began touring in Africa and then Europe. She released her first album Dianako in 2004 and audiences were seduced by her traditional, joyful and so natural music. The music utilises traditional instruments in modern arrangements. Keeping her lyrics faithful to the tradition of the griots, Kady plays her social role, and advises her African brothers and sisters for their everyday life, giving them hope for the future and honours her ancestors. Its popularity lead to this re-issue of the original CD from Air Mail Music SA141243. Comes with a 12 page booklet about the artists and songs. Have a listen to some stunning clips.

KINDISS ZOUAGNA DEYI E02831191-4 TC £ 15.00
Released back in 1991 by EMI Pathe Marconi C.I. with Congolese style guitar to the fore on this offering from Kinda Issa or Kindiss and wow can they play it sweetly. Then a couple of tracks that are very like the rootsy 'Swede Swede' that was sweeping D. R. Congo at the time, but here the influence is that super multi-beat Polihet rhythm. Finishes up with a gorgeous Cuban style track that just confirms how good this group were. He has played with Congolese artists like Vatto Mombassa who has contributed considerably in the making of this album and also Diblo Dibala. He is also known as the cantor of the Binon rhythm of the Lyele people of Burkina Faso which also got him nicknamed the King of Binon. So now just get your dancing shoes on. [4T/21M]

NICK DOMBY FEMME FEMME FEMME ND02 TC £ 0.00
Nick grabbed my attention for the first time with the super track 'Soum 7' which appeared on his 'Best of...' album, which even though it was good, just didn't quite make the grade. This, his new album, which he recorded at Studio Bleu Orleans in Paris includes that track and eight more besides. The music is electronic to the core, using only a W30, Q Base and keyboards in addition to Nick and backing singers Corine and Orlane. Its a very modern dance orientated album much more in keeping with the Caribbean than Africa, not a kora or balafon in sight anywhere! (F.T. Index: Soum7, Rasmata, Saaga, Ya Bouin ) [9T/36M] 1. SAAGA

PRINCE EDOUARD OUEDRAOGO VOLUME I E053192-4 TC £ 30.00
The Prince's Volume 1 released in 1992 which I've been after for a couple of years is not only arranged and produced by the Prince but he also plays guitar and sings as well. Mind you he also had a teeny bit of help from vocalist Ibrahim, the unnamed chorus girl and Exec, producer Bachot Muna. Like his Vol. II it's a quite flash affair and has the same rather funky sound that revels in those lovely Burkinabian rhythms. (F.T. PRINCE EDOUARD OUEDRAOGO WEEND LAMITA E0106192-4 TC £ 40.00
A real funky stomper with loads of crashing percussion, flash guitar and tremendously powerful vocals. Mainly super fast ziglibithy and if you can dance to all four tracks without stopping you deserve a medal even if it is posthumous, the speed as it gets to the 'zig' tracks on side two is overpowering. I'm sweating and I'm only listening to it! SOMETHING RATHER SPECIAL, GREAT GUITARS and VERY RARE.
