Superb Rai album released by Island back in 1988 and I would still rate it as one of the best. Her deep and rough vocals are addictive and she has dueted with many of the top male stars of Rai music. Just have a listen to Ya Laoulid and feel that sensuous rhythm that tells you to get up and dance.

| One of the great rai singers who was mentored early on by Cheb Mami. Cheb Aissa (born Ali-Sherif Benaissa) also duets with Cheba Fatiha on this early cassette. Singing from the age of 12 he joined a local rai band Farachete in 1986. He had a major hit in Algeria with his second cassette, Bela-Babi, in 1988 before moving to France in 1996. Singing traditionally based songs with modern slant got him signed to a recording contract with French label Blue Silver. Case and inlay in good condition. The cassette side B is OK but side A has a few small volume drops on the left channel. You can hear one in the middle of the clip from Adjedek. There seems to be no mention of this album or any of its tracks anywhere on the web so obviously rather rare. | 1. ADJEDEK

When making a CD-R copy for my own collection I found a few drop out faults and a couple of sudden endings plus tracks in the wrong order. | Recorded in 1985 by Numidie Music and quite an interesting item. First of all the track listing is incorrect as 1 - 3 is side B and 4 -6 is side A. The first track (No. 4) has a two second gap in the first 30 seconds of the intro after that there is a slight left channel volume drop in the middle. There is also a small left drop towards the end of track 5, the rest of the tracks are pretty much OK. The interesting bit is that track 3 is Chaba Fadela's original N'sel Fik from 1983 with different lyrics and three years before her big hit with it dueting with husband Cheb Sahraoui. Rai with that thumping rhythmic drumming that's missing on recent Euro releases. Instrument wise it seems to have a bit of everything combined with Zahouani's power packed vocals. The last track has to be unique as the manufacturer has put his squeaky voiced advert in while the song is still going, sounds great. Tracks: Shifour At Taxi, See Trotar, Khallil Habib Le Babibo, Al-Kubaida Majruha, Mahbobi. The title track is addictive and once heard you'll find yourself humming it all the time.

| Remitti really giving it some as she growls and rolls those R's with a vengance. The flutes and percussion accompaniment are real old time Rai at its best. Five of the nine tracks with different spellings can be found on the cassette EBC570. Having listened to both albums there is very little difference in the sound between the five tracks from the cassette except that for some reason they cut off the intro of the last track making it 50 seconds shorter. Djamel's first album released way back in 1976 as a gatefold LP with lyrics on the inside. Listening to it I could see where my favoutites of his album Salimo were coming from. Based on traditional Berber music but with a modern folk music atmosphere that made it stand out from other albums of that genre. A little tatty on the corners of the sleeve but otherwise in pretty good condition. The record is a little bit crackly mainly at the start and finish of tracks but otherwise it is not too bad. No big clicks, scratches or marks. WILL COME WITH A PERFECT CD-R including label, bookfront and inlay.

Released in 1985 which was when I bought this wonderful record. Djamel was a musician, singer, songwriter and also an actor with singles, LP and CD albums to his credit which were all very popular. Especially in France where he lived until his death in 2018. He is buried in his home town of Bejaia on the coast of Algeria. This remains to this day one of my favourite albums that I can never tire of hearing. Condition. A few age dots on the inner sleeve with all the info about the lyrics and artists. Sleeve is very good condition with just just a couple of small creases on top edge and spine. Record is very good with just the odd little click. IT IS NOT RAI MUSIC - SO PLEASE DO HAVE A LISTEN.

This CD was made in the EU for EMI Arabia in Dubai back in 1999 but the original recording was made by Azwaw back in 1979. Probably a live recording as there all sorts of strange sounds that would not have got onto a Studio recording. | Magic 1993 release from Khaled as he now likes to be known. With each new release he gets better but here he took some flak for betraying the original sound of Rai. Although the instrumentation is modern the music does keep all its traditional styles and is even augmented here and there by little western flourishes probably because production was split between Don Was and Phillipe Eidel.. Gone are the days of the rough and ready Rai songs which made him famous, always vocally intense he sings now with more purpose and feeling than ever before. | Boniche was born in 1922 in Algiers to a Sephadic Jewish family who let his interst in music be honed at the age of nine by 3 years touring with Saoud L'Oranais and his band. Saoud's real name was Messaoud El Medioni and he was also Jewish. He learnt Arab Classical music but when he moved to Paris in 1947 he was already well versed in mixing in Jazz, Mambo, Rhumba and Flamenco. He became a well known club entertainer but returned to Algeria and became a businessman. He lost everything in 1962 when Algeria expelled all Jews from the country. He started again in Paris but only dabbled in music until Francis Falceto of Ethiopiques fame got him to start recording again the 1990's. He recorded this album in 1998 and died in Paris in 2008. Released back in 1995 this is a wonderful compilation album from renowned singer Noura who was probably the sweetest and clearest voice of any of the female artists of the area. She died in 2014 at the age of 72 though you wouldn't think so from the album's cover picture. There are thirteen tracks but unfortunately no information about which albums they originally came from. She made many, many records, both LP's and singles from the early 60's onward. You can find 50 albums listed on the last.fm website alone. This is a definite cracker of an album all the way through, just have a listen. Condition as NEW. Looks to be VERY RARE INDEED.

Not having heard the album I was looking through reviews and found this from Nirmal Ghosh in Thailand and I think it says it all. - This is one of the best live albums I have ever heard. I usually dislike live albums because of the extraneous noise, but the sheer energy of this performance makes everything else seem pale. Rachid Taha takes essential north African/Arabic rai and folk rhythms and overlays a pounding kicking rock drum/bass/guitar and belts out the songs in Arabic. It is interesting to see the sound morph into techno trance in a live performance. I can never get tired of this album. The stars of the show were three of Rai's top artists and the album was issued in a variety of formats, a 23 track 2 x CD, a CD and DVD and this one which is a thirteen track CD. The album sales sent it Gold twice over in France. What an album. Condition as NEW. Cheb Taha died aged 59 in 2018. | Interesting album with some great tracks. It said on the cover that there are 24 tracks but a quick look at the list will tell you it is actually 26 Northan African Grooves. I don't know where English company Delta Music had their discs made but they couldn't spell Northern. Lots of big stars names and some I had never come across before. Both discs and the inlays are perfect but the case is a little bit scuffed and a small crack in the back cover. My favourite tracks are the ones with clips. | DISC 1

| The original cassette that was issued before 1989 when Globe Style licenced it and re-issued it on CD and LP. Very different spellings but the main difference to the tracks is in the length with the tape versions all being different to the Globe Style versions. Recorded at Studio Adam and distributed in Algeria by E.C.M. (Edition Chikhi Musique). A nice set of varied tracks with the soft voiced Zerouki accompanied by the power packed vocals of Chaba Djamila on some of the tracks. Condition as new except for a slight fade on the spine. | 1.
