| BILLY BERGMAN ( Secondhand ) | AFRICAN POP, GOODTIME KINGS | BERGMAN | BOOK | £ 4.00 | |
| At one time it was drums alone that rocked crowds in celebrations across Africa. In recent years in open-air dance halls, however, the musicians have been welcoming back musical ideas that left Africa with the slavers and returned enriched by new harmonies and instruments. Successive waves of bajiro, calypso, rumba, soul, funk, rock, and reggae have come to be blended with traditional rhythms, and have spawned the exuberant sounds of highlife, juju, kin-kin, makossa, afro-beat, and Congolese rumba and soukous bands. While surveying the historical backgrounds and developments of the different styles, African Pop focuses on the flashy figures and supergroups that are igniting the enthusiasm of young audiences throughout the world. Among those included are: King Sunny Adé and His African Beats, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Prince Nico Mbarga, Tabu Ley Rochereau, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, Franco, Orchestre Jazira, Manu Dibango, Olatunji, Bebe Manga, Sonny Okosun, Miriam Makeba, Les Ambassadeurs, Pierre Akendengue, Juluka, Alhaji (Chief) Kollington Ayinla, Maryse Ewanjé Jean Bosco Mwanda, and many, many more. The first book to spotlight this dynamic new pop sensation, includes a wealth of photographs. This 144 page book was printed in 1985. Condition as new. | |||||

| VARIOUS ARTISTS | AFRICA | B0004436-50 | DVD/CD | £ 15.00 | |
| Just calling it Africa doesn't tell you a lot. However, it's a very nice package containing a stylish map made with the help of the National Geographic, a 12 track CD and 10 track DVD plus a 48 page booklet about the music of Africa. The DVD isn't as you would expect, the singers performing their songs but a tour around the continent looking at the ordinary people and their lives. Very interesting and with with some great tracks to accompany it. Ray Lema - Ata N'dele, King Sunny Ade - Ja Funmi, Cheikh N'digel Lo - M'beddemi, African Fiesta - Paquita, Ismael Lo - Nafanta, Baaba Maal - African Woman, Pepe Kalle - Maya, Oumou Sangare - Yala, Salif Keita - Africa, Cesaria Evora - Carnival De Sao Vincente, Brenda Fassie - Vulindlela and Pierre Akendengue - N'dego. | |||||
